Development of postural control during reaching in children with and without developmental disorders

In this line of research we study with the help of surface EMG recordings, kinematics, kinetics and/or video-recording postural control and quality of reaching movement in children with and without developmental disorders. Children are studied primarily in supine or sitting position.

Current projects and projects just finished

A. Development of postural control during reaching in typically developing infants

In this project the relation between postural control and the kinematic quality of reaching movements in typically developing infants in supine and sitting condition is studied between the ages of 4 and 18 months. Postural control is documented by means of multiple surface EMG recordings of arm-, neck-, trunk- and legmuscles and by means of kinematics.

B. Development of postural control during reaching in high risk preterm infants

In this project the relation between postural control and the kinematic quality of reaching movements in high risk preterm infants in supine and sitting condition is studied at the corrected ages of 4, 6 and 18 months. Postural control is documented by means of multiple surface EMG recordings of arm-, neck-, trunk- and legmuscles and by means of kinematics.
