Infant Motor Profile (IMP)

De wijze waarop neuromotore disfunctie bij zuigelingen in kaart gebracht kan worden is beperkt. Daarom werd een instrument ontwikkeld om neuromotore problemen van zuigelingen van 3 tot 18 maanden in kaart te brengen. Het instrument, de Infant Motor Profile (IMP), maakt gebruik van video-opnames van spontaan gedrag van babys. De IMP is gebaseerd op de ideeën van de Neurale Groep Selectie Theorie. De IMP brengt niet alleen motorische mijlpalen in kaart, maar besteedt specifieke aandacht aan de kwaliteit van bewegingen, m.n. aan bewegingsvariatie, symmetrie en het al of niet aanwezig zijn van een vloeiend bewegingsverloop. De eerste resultaten geven aan dat de IMP een betrouwbaar en valide onderzoeksinstrument is.

The Infant Motor Profile (IMP)

Assessment of motor dysfunction in young children is still in its infancy. This is regrettable as a sensitive, reliable and valid instrument is a prerequisite for early detection of infants with developmental motor disorders. Recently a video-based assessment of motor behaviour of infants aged 3 to 18 months, the Infant Motor Profile (IMP), has been developed. The IMP is based on ideas of the Neuronal Group Selection Theory. The IMP does not only address motor milestones, but pays specific attention to the quality of motor behaviour, in particular in terms of movement variation, symmetry and fluency. The first results indicate that the IMP is a reliable and valid tool to assess infant motor development.
